So on 14 Apr, we turned 6 years together and it being a Sunday, we decided to take the time off from sch/work to celebrate! Had wanted to head over to Batam for a short stay but everything was quite rushed so in the end, we decided to have a normal date. :)
Having cravings for brunch, we made a pact to wake up earlier to head over to one of the cafes in town for a hearty brunch. But, us being us, by the time we woke up and prepared to go out, it was already 2.30pm! #fail
We went to Kith Cafe at Park Mall, one cafe that I had always wanted to try.
Kith Cafe
Park Mall (opp. Plaza Sing)
9 Penang Road
#01-01E
8am - 10pm
(breakfast served till 3pm)
I took a look at the menu for the sake of looking at it because I was already 101% sure what I was going to order. Heard so much raves about their Big Breakfast Set (S$16.50) I definitely had to try. Nelson also ordered the same set because he was so convinced by me. Teehee. And we can customise our toast and eggs so it will not be two same boring sets.
Guess which one is mine?
Because I do not like runny egg yolks (except for the traditional half boiled ones), I went for the scramble eggs rendition, while Nelson went for the poached version. Both were good! As for the toast, we were torn among the choices because there were so many types. On one hand, we wanted to be adventurous but we didn't want the wrong choice to ruin our big breakfast. In the end, Nelson picked some toast (which I cant rmb the name but it comes in triangles). Lol. The toast had chim names! Point to highlight was he wanted to pick wheat and nuts but luckily he didn't because the triangle ones tasted real good! As for me, I picked sourdough toast and it was SUPER good. I just anyhow picked because I really didn't know which to choose and sourdough sounds interesting. But it turned out to be super nice!
After a hearty meal, our tummies were satisfied and we decided to go and watch a movie.
Impromptu, but I just like it this way. :)
After watching the movies and shopping around Plaza Sing, we went over to Tao's to have dinner. And I actually got the wrong address. 2 years ago, when I had my first dining experience at Tao's, it was at Pomo Centre so I thought it was still there. To our horror, it shifted to Clarke Quay and we only realised that when we arrived at Pomo Centre. Luckily, there was a bus straight to Clarke Quay and we dashed down straight. Time check was 8pm and it was closing at 10pm.
Tao's Restaurant
6 Eu Tong Sen Street
#04-86 The Central
For those who are unfamiliar, Tao's is a restaurant that provides 6-course lunches and 7-course dinners, where you can basically choose your own combination of starters, appetizers and desserts. Something like Dozo.
6 course lunch set $25.80/pax
7 course dinner set $35.80/pax
And the 7 course meal begins!
The food was so-so only.
Ironically, the appetizers tasted so much better than the mains.
Was really disappointed in this meal because the service was really horrendous. The restaurant stated that its operating hours is until 10pm. When we went in, it was 8.30pm and its last order was at 9.30pm. We thought we can enjoy our dinner peacefully and slowly. However, when we reached the 3rd course, the restaurant manager started to tell us to eat faster because he will be serving the other courses faster than usual as it was nearing their closing time.
Time check was at 9pm.
Following that, they served so fast we almost had indigestion. Part of that was due to the stress from the staff who were eagerly staring at us to finish our food.
I was appalled because it is the first time any restaurant had ever asked us to eat up quickly so that they can close on time. If they were planning to close at 10pm, what will happen if someone comes in at 930pm? Won't they force the person to gobble everything (7 courses) in half an hour? Normally, restaurants nearing their closing time will still wait for the customers to finish eating and not rush them like that.
This will probably be my last time there.
After the meal, we strolled back from Clarke Quay to City Hall to digest the food and did a couple of "fun" shots along the way. Lol.
Out of 6 years, we enjoy having fun like such together.....
Grinning like a happy woman because I dunno what Nelson did.
Here's a photo of us to end off his post.
Here's to many more years together!
Love,
Clarice
